Authorial design and formal simplicity are the backbone of Estudiobola, a Brazilian design studio with more than twenty years of history. For its first store in the capital, the brand asked us to translate its qualities into space and to bring the idea of Architecture closer to its furniture.
This became an opportunity to pay homage to Brasília, through symbols that belong to the daily life and imagination of the city.
On the façade, a 24-metre front that projects four metres beyond its neighbour is treated as an architectural volume rather than a mall storefront. The mass is sculpted at different angles to hold windows, openings and the entrance.
Inside, inclined pilotis recall the free ground floor of the Superquadras, the feeling every resident knows of stepping out of the lift straight into the city. Under the mezzanine, the aluminium ceiling Athos Bulcão designed for the Federal Senate is brought down to a domestic height of 2.35 m. Along the mezzanine, a display panel of geometric volumes, clad in green carpet, is inspired by Bulcão's façade for the National Theatre.
