Estudio SIM
At the back of actor Eduardo Okamoto's house, this shed holds the office of his production company, SIM!Cultura, and the studio where he researches, rehearses and experiments with theatre.
Inside the shed, a white masonry box contains a guest room that also serves as a dressing room on the ground floor, and the office above. On both façades, large pivoting aluminium doors clad in polycarbonate close the space, bringing in light and air. They can also move with the situation, in a kind of scenographic choreography.
Architecture reduced to the essential, to leave room for the scene.
"Beauty is not everything: I feel the space will move my theatre research forward by a few years. Architecture reduced to the essential has opened up new perspectives on the stage. Often I just look at the forms of the studio, almost in meditation: its lines calm me."
