Casa Monóculo

Suspended 5 metres above the Cerrado, the house barely touches the ground, preserving the land and the vegetation beneath it while reaching for the sunrise behind the mountains.
Its shape recalls the old photo monocles, small trapezoidal viewers used to look at a slide against the light. Just as the monocle freezes an image, the house freezes the experience of living nature in time.
The journey is part of the project. A winding staircase rises through the trees, and once inside, a closed volume delays the view, a moment of suspense before the surprise: a large opening that does not frame the landscape but lets it fill the entire space.
Designed as a place for short stays, the house became an opportunity to reflect on time, approach and journey, scale and sensation, people and nature, ascent and dissolution.
